Natalie: Hello everyone. This is Natalie Ledwell and this is the Inspiration Show. Today on the show we’re going to be talking about a very special project called the prayer project. So please welcome my special guest, Paramahansa Jagadish. How are you Paramahansa?
Paramahansa: Why good, thank you.
N: Pleasure to have you here and to be talking to you about this amazing project that you’re the instigator of and the change that it is able to (00:28) around the world. So before we get into the exciting part of our show today, why don’t we talk a little bit about your background and how you got into doing such an amazing project?
P: Okay, well, of course, coming into life I had a profound spiritual life unlike many experienced or experiencing liberation when I was 4 years old. So, that led me into the spiritual life. From then on, everything that I could find especially when I was around 10 years old was when they started for me, I couldn’t get enough indigenous traditions – Buddhism, Hinduism, Mystical, Christianity – all of those different things, that’s what was I was interested in. So I studied, I practiced as best I could, everything like that, but one interesting thing happened, something that I didn’t have to create, it just happened for me but when I was 4, 5 years old again, my mother started learning the sacred hula dancing of the Hawaiian tradition, the Hawaiian spiritual tradition. So from when I was a toddler, I was listening to the Hawaiian music and my mother would perform the hula dancing in front of us kids and explain the moves she was making and stuff like that.
N: Excellent. You have to elaborate a little bit on your spiritual experience when you were 4.
P: Well, some circumstances came up for me. I was in the backyard in my house and there was a large, large hole that was dug out by the family dogs, there were 2 dogs. I was peering into the hole and I was 3 and a half, 4 years old and my brother was off to the side and he was tinkering with the bicycle and I was trying to get his attention as I was looking at the hole peering down, looking down, I was saying, “Look, come over here. Look at this hole,” and he didn’t answer me but my awareness was flipped into this two areas, so I lost my balance and I fell into the hole and I tucked my head and I roll down into the whole one. I ended up at the bottom kind of like in a yoga sitting position. So you can tell where this is going, most people can understand this, I looked ahead of me and all there was was earth. I looked on each side, all there was was this earth and then I looked above me to the juniper tree that was above me and as I was coming back down and looking back here (gestures eye level), I think before I saw the earth again in front of me, I went into this light – this bright, bright light – there was no sense of any time, there was no sense of any separation, of anything whatsoever. So, it was total oneness, total (3:46) and knowledge, if you will. And so, it’s quite profound at four year old to happen but you can see the circumstances, from this you can just deduct that in past lives I was in caves meditating and attained those things and it was just bringing me up to speed in this life.
N: And so from that point forward, did you, were you always curious about spirituality?
P: Oh yes, like I said, something happened where my mom brought Hawaiian spirituality to me when I couldn’t (gestures), at 4 years old what can you do? But by the time I was 10, I became vegetarian and I dive into all the literature I could find at 10 years old. I continue until this day to be absorbed in spirituality.
N: Yeah, so tell me about the prayer project because you seem to have a lot of influences when it comes to spirituality and you also have a degree in (4:55) psychology as well so tell me how the prayer project came about?
P: Well, the prayer project came about, I wrote this project around 10 years ago, somehow I was probably near a TV, probably a part of my life that I had a TV connected or something like that and I was seeing that there was so much suffering in the world, so much going on and it’s due to ignorance, it’s due to us being covered over by ignorance and not understanding who we truly are and all of that stuff. I thought well, I have to do something. I have to do something to put it out there and may be it will take off and may be it won’t but I have to do my share, I have to do something. So, even if the book was written so long ago I never felt it was finished. There were so many things I wanted to put into the book, little things at different times, sometimes when I have a year when I can just (Natalie inserts) …
N: Focus…
P: Focus, right, focus on it such a deep level then I might elaborate and put some more things in them, the book itself.
N: Excellent. So when you say prayer you’re talking about, is there one sort of one kind of doctrine or how or what is your interpretation of prayer?
P: No. Prayer is everything. Prayer is meditation. Prayer in action is (6:34) benefiting others in whatever way you can – in humility, care and concern. And then there is formal prayer where we say some things, where we concentrate our minds, where we reach out to the divine and we ask the divine to intercede and heal this planet, not the planet, heal the human beings of this planet, so that the planet doesn’t have to go through climate change. The way that the climate has changing and causing so many things, in a way, the way that the earth and the climate is responding to the havoc makers of the planet which are the human beings.
N: So is there a specific way or a proper way to pray?
P: No. We do it with our heart. We do it in humility but even if we do it anger or upset, it’s all prayer. So, it’s all good I think.
N: And so what’s the benefits for people listening to this video? What are the benefits for them in getting involved in the project?
P: That’s a great question because I’m not, when we do 3-minutes of prayer 3 times a day, which is what this project is, we will notice our life becoming filled with love and we pray for ourselves as well to be purified, etc and then we pray for the benefit of all other beings, especially the leaders – government, religious, financial leaders, corporate leaders – all leaders which includes everyone because everyone has an influence with someone else. For the purification of all those leaders and what will happen is our own life will transform from the inside out, and when we pray for the benefit of others, you know this, because of this great (8:37) activity benefitting others with a pure mind and a calm heart, all kinds of graces come into our lives. Our lives will be improved a hundred fold and be well.
N: Right. So is there a specific time of the day that we should do this and the reason I’m asking this is if you read something like the field or the intention experiment by (8:59), scientifically, they’ve been able to measure if we all have a certain prayer intention at the same time, it actually, it’s way more powerful. So, is there some time that we should do this?
P: Yeah, well, you know, I say do it whenever you can because some people get hang up on time but I say morning, noon and night. Morning, noon and night put in 3 minutes the quality of prayer of heart, concentrated prayer with love and then people would probably find themselves taking 30 seconds to 3 minutes, may be 20 to 30 times a day, whenever they want to because they feel that love expand from their heart as well. People will do it 50 times a day even if it’s 30 seconds – connect and ask for divine intervention.
N: Yeah. What you are explaining is actually being able to cooperate as (10:02) practice so that we have that connection to the divine, to whatever you like to call that.
P: Yes, like a formal practice that you do and then a spontaneous practice that you do the rest of the day. So, yes, exactly.
N: Great. So I know that you have the book but I also know you have the website as well with the prayer project, is there something that people can get involved with as a group or as an individual thing?
P: We’re working towards a group and you know it’s hard to organize with just a few people involved but we have the prayer-project.com which leads you to stewardshipofthesoul.com and there you can pledge, do a pledge, I’m going to do this practice, you can and there’s other things that we’re creating. Hopefully, eventually, group stuff and we’re going to do some live streams in the future for people to connect to all around the world and we’ve done one already but we’re gearing up to do a few more.
N: Yeah. So anyone, no matter what kind of religious or spiritual background you have, you will benefit from this.
P: Yes, or we have no background. (laughs)
N: You’ve got somewhere to start. (laughs)
P: That includes everyone. All inclusive.
N: So, my next question for you is what is your vision for the world? What is your vision that you would like to achieve with the prayer project?
P: Well, it’s not about me achieving anything because whatever happens is going to happen but we know and it’s been proven over and over again the power of prayer and if we get together and a few hundred thousand of people, a few million people we know that the more people come together, the more powerful the results will be both internally for everyone and externally. So I think if this takes off or someone else’s project takes off, doesn’t matter whose project takes, or more than one project takes off but something has to take off and then we can shift the whole consciousness of the planet and then from that we can get nature, this respectful communion with nature back in order and then we can have our prayer (12:24) sun and earth.
N: Now, I think this is a very timely message because I’m not sure about you but I know in my experience it seems, there seems to be a mass awakening happening. We are more aware that there is more to us than this body that we walk around in.
P: Yes, that’s true. That’s very true.
N: So a project like this is really fantastic for that. So, that’s prayer-project.com?
P: Yeah, that’s prayer-project.com that leads you to stewardshipforthesoul.com.
N: Wonderful, wonderful! Well, it’s been an absolute pleasure having you on the show today, thank you so much for sharing this project and to get it off the ground. Like you said, it’s not about you but the project itself I think has so much relevant meaning for what’s happening to the world today. So thank you so much for what you do.
