Have you ever looked at a photo and not recognized yourself at first glance?
Cameras capture how the world sees us - whereas when we look at ourselves in a mirror, we often apply a harsher filter with a critical analysis of each characteristic.
It's not surprising that there are differences between how we see ourselves and how the world sees us... Are you more harsh when you look at yourself in the mirror?
Perhaps it's time to try a different filter. Look at yourself with a loving, accepting, forgiving lens and try to identify your favorite characteristics. Don't be surprised if you now notice brighter eyes and a bigger smile! :-D
The truth is, people use filters all the time. It's up to us to make sure that we're using a positive one, instead of a negative one.
Here are four common areas in life that people have self-limiting filters (and I guarantee if you're using any of them, even just one, you're holding yourself back from living the amazing life you were born to have):
MONEY
Negative Filters:
"I don't deserve to be wealthy."
"I'll never be rich."
"Without money, I'll never truly be happy."
Positive Truth:
Money is nothing more than a commodity, we trade money for products, goods and services. The difference in how much we have or need is all perception. Learn how to live in an abundant mindset and wealth will begin flowing to you in surprising ways!
WEIGHT
Negative Filters:
"I've always been fat."
"Food tastes too good."
"I don't like working out."
Positive Truth:
Weight is nothing but a number, and we have more control than we think over what the scale says. Our actual health is so much more than how many pounds or kilograms we use to identify ourself, but we know weight is one important factor of health. So, keep in mind how important it is to have a mindset of holistic health.
ADDICTION
Negative Filters:
"I've never had much self-control."
"I'm not hurting anyone but myself."
"I'm not an addict. I can stop whenever I want."
Positive Truth:
Whether it's smoking, drinking, drugs, food, or sex. Addiction is an internal trigger - our bodies actually become hooked to the feeling. The response may be physical or chemical, but it's little more than a light switch - learn how to switch your addictions off for good by implementing daily success rituals.
CONFIDENCE
Negative Filters:
"I'm ugly."
"I'll never be happy."
"I'm too hard on myself."
Positive Truth:
Our life is what we make of it. If you're able to identify something in your life that negatively influences you, make an effort to change. It might not be easy, but try not to fixate on the problems and really focus on what needs to be done.
