Rosa Parks. Amelia Earhart. Mahatma Gandhi.
Do these names ring a bell? Well, these are only a few of the many public figures that have proven to be absolutely fearless. Authors, coaches, athletes, actors and actresses - you name it! To be fearless is desired by people all around the world. Singer Taylor Swift even released an entire album about being 'Fearless'. Not to mention, a record-breaking album! ;-)
So what does the word 'fearless' really mean?
Fearless:
Free from fear
Not afraid
Bold
Brave
Courageous
Gutsy
So, take a moment and think about what being fearless means to you. Do you consider yourself to be a bold and courageous person? Or have you found yourself stuck in an endless cycle of self-doubt, worry, and - you guessed it - FEAR?
Okay, so maybe you aren’t an international country/pop singer that handles fear by pouring their heart out into a no.1 debut album. But you do have the power to be just as fearless. So, if you're ready to tackle those big dreams, small goals, and everything in between, then check out my personal tips for success on how to overcome your fears.
#1 Acknowledge it
This is a big one. Fear has this funny way of putting us in an endless cycle of worry and self-doubt. It can be hard to live life on purpose and with intent when you are questioning your every move:
Should I go for it?
Should I stay?
What if it doesn’t work?
How will I get past this?
Dwelling on the ‘what ifs’ is what gets us nowhere in our personal development. Trying to figure out what to do, what not to do, what to say, what not to say, turns into an endless spiral. That’s why a big part of being fearless is to face your fears head-on. The second you acknowledge them, you are shifting to a place of mindfulness and into a mode taking action.
#2 Shift your attitude
Did you know that you have the power to shape your destiny? Well, when you break it down, the basis is very simple, because it all starts with you! Due to the limiting beliefs we have grown accustomed to from our past, being fearless takes a bit of work. It can be easy to feel undeserving of new opportunities when you have a habit of doubting yourself. And sometimes you may not even realize it because you have become so immune to feeling that way. But the minute you become open to change, you will start to see your desires begin to flow in effortlessly. Each morning you wake up is a fresh start to new possibilities, so always start your day on a positive note. Don’t let those limiting beliefs keep holding you back from what you really want out of life. The Law of Attraction teaches us that you have the power to steer your own ship merely by shifting your mindset.
#3 Stay Curious
Let’s think back to childhood for a moment. Remember the days of playing make-believe? Using your mind to come up with the wildest dreams and fantasies you could possibly imagine? I know I did! This is a significant part of early childhood development - igniting creativity, empathy, and focus - some of life’s most important lessons. So who says curiosity has to stop at childhood? That’s why I say to never forget to reference your inner child by staying curious. Using those moments of raw curiosity and wonder we experienced as children is an extremely healthy way to tackle fear in adulthood. When you channel that youthful fearlessness, you leave no room for worry or doubt because your mind becomes open to endless possibilities and ideas. That's why curiosity is so beneficial in unlocking optimism, allowing you to have a more positive outlook on what’s to come. Remember,
No dream is too big.
#4 Let go of the past
Hanging on to the past is a sure-fire way of holding you back from the possibilities of what’s to come in the future. The trauma of past experiences or failures is what tricks our minds into thinking about what we should or should not be doing. But if you can let go of what has been and use the past as a learning tool, you are telling the Universe,
I am ready and open to new opportunities.
Holding on to the past may also be a defense mechanism - a way of using caution to prevent future let-down, failure, or even heartache. But there comes a time when you must let go. Not only are you letting go of something that can never be changed, but you are also letting go of the worry, anxiety, and stress, that comes with it. All of which can have a significant impact on both your mental and physical well-being. Ridding yourself of these taxing emotions allows you to be bold and think courageously.
#5 Focus on what’s on the other side of fear
Challenge yourself by shifting your focus to what's on the other side of fear. Maybe you want to apply to that dream job, climb the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, or start a side business. Whatever it is that you are scared to tackle, be specific, and start to visualize yourself already having done it. Visualize yourself sitting in your new corner office at your dream job. Visualize yourself standing on the mountain top, overlooking the beautiful horizon of Peru. Visualize yourself holding the check for a sale you made from your side business. This is key because your mind will assume it's already happened because it can't tell the difference. This step alone has allowed me to attract so many of my personal wants and desires. So be sure to apply that same focus every day when thinking about your goals and wants out of life.
#6 Be yourself
No one can be you quite like you can ;-) That’s why the last step in becoming fearless, is just to be yourself. This may seem easy, but based on experience, I would often find myself stuck in that pesky comparison trap, instead of focusing on just being me. I realized that in order to be fearless, I had to know and accept myself and understand my purpose.
That’s precisely why I believe you have the power to be successful in combating fear and becoming phenomenally fearless. And I welcome you to try this eye-opening exercise to help you uncover any subconscious programming that may be holding you back.
