With the holidays right around the corner, it can be overwhelming to also have to think about your potential New Year resolutions! With a new year comes new opportunities, new adventures, and of course - new challenges! Every December, I try and pick a new 30-day challenge that will help kickstart the new year and get my mind and body in tune with my goals. Sure - committing to something for 30 days can be difficult. But that’s why it’s called a challenge, right?
Sticking with something for 30 days can have life changing results. It can open up your mind to new possibilities and a new way of approaching obstacles. It can give you a sense of accomplishment, purpose and fulfillment. It can even help ingrain a new habit into your daily routine!
With January quickly approaching, we thought this would be a great time to introduce some of our favorite 30-day challenges and popular resolutions of 2018. So take a look at our list, and you can always add some of your own into the mix to challenge yourself and stay motivated this year.
1) 30-Day Gratitude Journal
This is one of my favorite challenges. Every evening, I reflect on my day and jot down a few things I’m grateful for. I keep a journal next to my bed as a reminder, but whatever works best for you is great! It doesn’t matter if you write one word or one paragraph, a daily reminder of the things in the world that you’re grateful for will go a long way in creating the positive energy you want in your life. Not to mention, you’ll have a nice list to remind you of some of your gratefuls long after this 30-day challenge has passed!
2) 30 Days x 30 Minutes of Exercise
This is probably already a top goal for many of us, but it never hurts to challenge yourself mindfully. Perhaps a new magnetized refrigerator calendar would be helpful to stay motivated this year. Switching out exercise also makes it fun, walking 30 minutes one day and 30 minutes of yoga or stretching the next day. How about 30 minutes of Zumba or Salsa dancing? Or training for a marathon? Whatever it is, have fun while you kickstart the new year getting in shape!
3) 30 Days of Pay-It-Forward
This can be as simple as smiling at strangers, to saying yes to every (reasonable) favor asked of you by your co-workers, boss, friends or family. A smile one day, a favor the next, keeping the door open for a stranger or letting someone in the elevator before you - then start all over the following week. These are just some examples, there are so many random acts of kindness from which to choose!
4) 30 Days of Self-Care
Self-Care is one of the most important of these 30-day challenges. Without self-care, how can we take care of anyone or anything else? Self-care is a necessity because it helps reduce the negative effects of stress and helps you refocus and recharge. And self-care doesn’t only mean luxurious “indulgences” like massage or pedicures, but can be simple things like protecting your schedule, making sure to take deep breaths, soaking in a bath, or just having 30 minutes of alone time. So challenge yourself to do something nice for yourself every day for 30 days, no matter how small you feel the gesture may be. You’ll be grateful you did, and then you can add that to your gratitude list! :)
5) 30 Days of Meditation
Meditation is an absolute must for me. Every day I take some time for myself, and meditate for 30 minutes. Talk about recharging! I like to do it in the afternoon, but whatever works best for your schedule. If you want to do 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening, that’s okay too! Whatever it takes to stay motivated this year, there are no hard and fast rules. Of course I love our meditations, but it’s fun to mix it up sometimes. There’s a great app called “Calm” - you can try it here! And Oprah and Deepak generously share their 21-day topic focused meditations a few times a year. You can sign up for those here! I promise you, meditation is life changing!
