Is your life less than ordinary?
Do you ever feel stuck and uninspired?
Do you wish you could turn your challenges into successful wins?
If you’ve answered YES to any of these, then you’ll be pleased with this insightful episode of The Inspiration Show, where I’m joined by a truly special guest: Kim Schneiderman.
Kim is a psychotherapist, author and columnist whose approach to turning challenges into triumphs is so unique and powerful that I wanted to make sure you received all of her nuggets of wisdom.
During this interesting interview, Kim shared that the reason people get stuck in their lives is because they’re unaware that they have the ability to change their story.
This is why she believes that when people imagine their lives as if it was a novel and see themselves in 3rd person, they’re able to emotionally detach themselves from the situation and overcome their challenges more easily.
If you’re feeling stuck in your life or you wish you knew how to succesfully and gracefully deal with your life difficulties, then read Kim’s 4 easy steps to transforming any challenge into a triumph below:
Step 1. Write about your struggles or difficulties in the third person.
Studies show that when you look at your life from a more distant perspective, it helps you step of out the situation and see it more objectively and with more compassion.
Every time you use pronouns like ‘she’, ‘he’, or ‘they’, you’ll be avoiding writing about yourself. This technique can help you see yourself as an empowered character overcoming obstacles which can be truly life changing!
Step 2. Name your current chapter.
If you could name your present life experiences and summarize them into one chapter, what would the title of that chapter be?
Describing your current chapter can help you identify the primary antagonist of your story, which might be a negative person in your life that’s causing you grief, or a challenging situation, like being unemployed.
A good way to identify it is by asking yourself in the third person voice, "In this particular chapter, what or who is challenging the hero the most and in what ways is it forcing them to grow?"
Step 3. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of each character.
To help you do this, ask yourself…
~ Have the same antagonists appeared in your life before?
~ Has the antagonist revealed any weaknesses? What are they?
~ What strengths has your character developed by facing the antagonist?
~ What steps or actions might your character take to move this story in the direction that’s most empowering?
Step 4. Reevaluate.
What have you learned about yourself from the antagonists in your life story? When they show up, do you run away or do you surrender to them? Or do you face them fearlessly?
You see, once you accept that your antagonists play an important part in the story of your life by teaching you valuable lessons, then you’re able to acknowledge the gifts they bring you.
This new awareness can bring you a powerful and unique perspective on your life. And it'll remind you that each story (even yours) is worth reading and living!
