Keeping A Grateful Heart Through Challenging Times

Last week was undeniably challenging for me.

My heart felt heavy as my mum was admitted to a dementia ward at a nursing facility.

Despite being miles away, I couldn't help but wonder how I could support my family and my mum during this difficult transition.

In times like these, it's natural to be consumed by the negative aspects of the situation, allowing ourselves to feel the emotions that arise.

However, it's crucial not to dwell there indefinitely. Instead, I've chosen to take a proactive approach and focus on what I can contribute.

First, I make sure to call my dad every few days to check on his well-being and provide support from afar.

I also reached out to my sisters, expressing my gratitude for their presence and dedication to looking after Dad and assisting Mum through this challenging time.

When speaking to Mum, I hold onto the memories of all the good she has done for me, cherishing her sacrifices and the role she played in shaping the person I am today.

Even if she forgets my name or where I live during our conversations, I remain patient and understanding, knowing that deep down, she will always hold a special place in my heart.

Focusing on what I can do, no matter how small, has brought me a sense of peace and empowerment. It reminds me that even amidst difficult circumstances, there are ways to show love, care, and support to those we hold dear.
