What comes to mind when you think about stress? We often don’t see it this way, but stress is a natural part of life that will always exist in the human body - and with good reason. But when we take the time to examine what it is we are stressed about, we can see the stress in our lives for what it truly is.
Stress is an energy that creates pressure or tension, which can actually serve as a catalyst to propel us forward. It exists so that you can continually choose opportunities and people that bring you joy by letting go of behaviors and subconscious patterns that aren’t working for you.
The tension allows us to create alignment within our internal and external worlds so that we can consciously create our future. However, without the proper mindset or tools, stress can trigger a lot of limiting beliefs that can be damaging. These beliefs make it more difficult for us to be productive, take action, or even see the situation clearly.
So next time you are feeling stressed, here are five healthy techniques that will help you relieve it, so you can lead a happier, more productive life!
1. Begin with the mind
If you are chronically stressed and worried, I recommend a quick internal inquiry. Ask yourself, “Is this something that I can change?” as well as, “Is it my responsibility to change this?”. When you stop to consider these questions, you will then understand what options are truly available to you. Being able to articulate and define options of what can be done keeps your mind from wandering into scenarios of worry and projection. You may be worrying about a task that can simply be delegated, or something that is truly out of your control.
2. Discover a relaxation method that works for you
If you still find yourself bombarded by stressful thoughts, find a way to move the energy from your head and down into your body. You can do an exercise like yoga, a meditation, or even something as simple as turning on a song and singing. And, here’s a tip within a tip: pick an activity that may challenge you a bit physically. This will force your mind to stay present with your body and kicks in the happy hormones.
3. Talk it out
If you're really feeling stuck and you start to feel like you can’t escape your thoughts, talk to a trusted friend, family member, partner, or mentor. Sometimes getting a third-party perspective, or just a listening ear is enough to completely remove us from our blind spots. If you don’t have access to someone, start a journal! Any way to remove the thoughts out of your body - whether by speaking or writing - will start to eliminate stress.
4. Watch something inspiring
In the Ultimate Success Masterclass, we teach our students how to raise their vibration. One of the recommendations I often give is to watch or listen to something inspiring, like The Inspiration Show! Occasionally, listening to someone share their story and learning how they triumphed through an obstacle is all we need to feel inspired and stop sweating the small stuff.
5. Get enough sleep
The majority of people either don’t get enough sleep or have poor sleep habits, which decreases the ability to handle even the most normal of everyday stressors - like getting somewhere on time, for example. If you find yourself having trouble sleeping, this is a great all-natural sleep aid that won't make you feel groggy the next day.
